Celebrating Scottish music; past, present and future

The SAY Award 2021 will see the introduction of two new awards to accompany the main album of the year prize. With The SAY Award itself celebrating outstanding Scottish music at present, the introduction of our two new awards will see a full-circle celebration of Scottish music throughout time…

Modern Scottish Classic Award

Recognising Scottish music’s past by giving an annual award to an iconic Scottish album which has inspired music being made today.

  • Winner chosen by SAY Award 2021 nominees.
  • Winner announced in conjunction with The SAY Award Shortlist.
  • Special performance at The SAY Award Ceremony 2021 to celebrate the winning album.
  • Winner receives a bespoke art prize, created through The SAY Award Design Commission.

The Sound of Young Scotland Award

Driving Scottish music’s future by giving an annual award to an emerging artist to facilitate the creation of their debut album.

  • Winner chosen by a panel of previous SAY Award nominees.
  • Winner announced at The SAY Award Ceremony.
  • Winner is given a performance slot to showcase at The SAY Award Ceremony 2022.
  • Winner receives up to £5,000 funding to facilitate the creation of their debut album.

Applications for the Sound of Young Scotland Award 2021 are NOW OPEN and close at midnight on Friday 13 August.

Class of 2021 Development Programme

Designed to maximise opportunities for SAY Award nominees and their teams, the Class of 2021 Development Programme will offer strategic support to further enhance careers throughout The SAY Award campaign and beyond. The programme includes bespoke artist development consultancy, training opportunities from SAY Award partners and more.
