Kai Reesu

Kai Reesu are an emergent force on parallel planes - the Scottish Jazz and Hip-Hop scenes . The Band is led by Paul Copeland on keys and centred around a core rhythm section with Matt Sim on drums and Robert McArthur on guitar and bass , & blend elements of psychedelia , grime and melancholic neo-classical piano into a foundation
of old skool funk and progressive hip-hop , with thumping polyrhthms and rich horns - finished by Tenor saxophonists Harry Weir and Michael Butcher , and vocals from Los-Angeles-come-Govan based rapper Jurnalist.

Made in the image of the mixtape (complete with interludes) , KOMPROMAT Vol. i solidifies the collaboration of Kai Reesu with Jurnalist , a full excursion of different geometries of the hip-hop sound , boom-bap, neo-soul , grime and west coast , filtered through the Kai machine with rich layers and live instrumentation . The album subtly tells a story of how Jurnalist came to Scotland , links up with Kai Reesu and the journey therein , landing at Remember - ' remember the come-up , don't forget them days' , equal parts prophetic and nostalgic.
